MATCHED · DRAFTED · APPROVED
Security questionnaire automation and security questionnaire software that answers from your own controls and evidence
Paste a customer's security questionnaire or upload it as a CSV, and every question comes back matched to one of your control areas with a draft answer written from what your workspace actually records: control status, evidence with its date, approved policies. A person approves each answer, and the finished set exports as a CSV the same afternoon.

What security questionnaire automation does, and where most tools get it wrong
Security questionnaire automation reads each question in a customer's security review, finds the part of your security program it is asking about and drafts the answer, so a person reviews and approves instead of writing 150 answers from scratch. Most tools draft from a library of past answers or from documents fed to an AI model. That is fast, but it answers with what you said last year, not with what is true today, and a stale "yes" on a questionnaire becomes a contractual claim.
Complies drafts from your live compliance program. Each question is matched to one of 17 control areas, such as access reviews, encryption, backups or incident response, and the draft says what the workspace records: whether the control has current evidence, when it was collected, how many recurring tasks for it are done and current, and which approved policies cover it. If the evidence has gone stale, the draft says so and tells you to refresh it before sending. If nothing is recorded, it says the question cannot be answered from the workspace yet. There is no AI guessing and no invented answer. Questionnaires are included in Growth at $119 a month billed yearly, with 15 seats, alongside the SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR and PCI DSS programs the answers come from.
Complies assists with compliance workflows. It is not legal advice, and it does not certify you or guarantee audit outcomes. Your auditor decides; Complies gets you ready.
Three things a security questionnaire tool has to get right before an answer leaves the building
Match the question to a control, not to a keyword
Questions about 2FA, MFA and one-time passwords land on the same control, and so do pen tests, penetration testing and ethical hacking. Complies normalizes the vocabulary and scores each question against 17 control areas. Below the match threshold it does not guess; the question is marked for a human to answer.
control mapping softwareDraft from dated evidence, not from last year's answer
The draft names the evidence behind the answer and the date it was collected, counts the recurring tasks for that control that are done and current, and lists the approved policies that cover it. Stale evidence is called out in the draft itself, so nobody sends a confident yes on a control that lapsed in the spring.
evidence collection softwareKeep a human on every answer, then reuse it
Each draft is edited and approved by a person before export. Once approved, the answer is reused as the starting draft the next time the same question appears, labeled with who approved it and when, and it still needs a fresh approval for the new customer.
compliance reportsWays to answer a security questionnaire compared, from a shared spreadsheet to AI response platforms
Teams shopping for security questionnaire software are usually leaving one of three setups: an engineer answering from memory in a shared sheet, an answer library in a proposal tool, or an AI response platform that drafts from uploaded documents. This is how they compare on the work that actually takes the time, including where Complies is the wrong pick.
| What you need | Spreadsheet and Slack | RFP or AI response platform | Complies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where answers come from | Whoever knows, usually the CTO, typing from memory | A content library or AI over documents you uploaded | Your live control status, dated evidence, recurring tasks and approved policies |
| When a control has lapsed | Nobody notices until an audit | The library still says yes | The draft says the evidence is stale and to refresh it before sending |
| Questions it cannot answer | Left blank or guessed | AI may produce a fluent answer anyway | Marked No mapped control yet, answer manually |
| Formats | Whatever the customer sent | Often writes back into Excel, Word and customer portals | Paste or CSV in, CSV out with answer, control, status and sources |
| Also runs the compliance program | No | No, it answers about a program run elsewhere | Yes, SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR and PCI DSS in the same workspace |
| Price | Engineer hours, often two weeks per large questionnaire | From $300 a month (1up) to $9,600 a year (Conveyor); Loopio has a $24,209 Vendr median | $119 a month billed yearly for Growth, $299 for Scale, published |
Read that table honestly. If you answer dozens of RFPs and questionnaires a quarter, need answers written back into the customer's own Excel layout or a procurement portal, or want a public trust center, a dedicated response platform such as Conveyor or Loopio is built for that and Complies is not. Complies fits the company where the same few people run the security program and answer the questionnaires about it, and want the answers to match the evidence an auditor would see. If you are also weighing the compliance platforms that bundle questionnaire tools, compare them in detail on Vanta alternatives, Drata alternatives and Secureframe alternatives.
Security questionnaire software vendors and what each one publishes on price
We opened each vendor's own pricing page in October 2026. Where no price is published, the table says so and uses Vendr's brokered contract data only where the sample is real and clearly about the same product.
| Tool | How it drafts answers | Who it fits | Published pricing (October 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Complies | Matches each question to one of 17 control areas and drafts from recorded evidence, tasks and approved policies; no AI; a person approves every answer | Companies of 5 to 200 that run SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR or PCI DSS and answer their own questionnaires | Yes. Growth $119 and Scale $299 a month billed yearly; $239 and $599 billed monthly |
| Conveyor | AI questionnaire automation from a knowledge base, plus a trust center, RFP answers and a browser extension for customer portals | Sales and security teams with a steady flow of questionnaires and RFPs | Partly. Business from $9,600 a year with 20 questionnaire credits; the free tier is a trust center without questionnaire automation |
| 1up | AI answers from your approved sources, inside Slack, Teams and the browser, with questionnaire automations billed by volume | Teams that want an answer engine for sales and product questions as well as security | Yes. Starter $300 a month (1 questionnaire), Plus $900 a month (6), or $0.05 per question answered through its MCP server |
| AutoRFP.ai | AI drafting for RFPs, DDQs and security questionnaires, priced per project with unlimited users | Proposal teams answering many RFPs a year | Yes. $899 a month paid yearly for 24 projects a year, $1,299 a month for 50 |
| Loopio | An RFP response library with AI assistance, used for security questionnaires alongside sales RFPs | Mid-size and enterprise proposal teams | No. Vendr median $24,209 a year across 268 purchases, $11,770 to $59,257, April 2026 |
| Vanta and Drata | Questionnaire automation inside a compliance automation platform, drafting from the trust center and program data | Funded startups that want integration-driven monitoring and guided audits | No. Both are quote-only; Vendr medians of about $20,000 (Vanta) and $24,868 (Drata) a year for the platform, February 2026 |
Two notes. A response platform and a compliance platform solve different halves of the same job: the first writes answers fast, the second makes sure there is something true to write. Many larger teams run both. And Vendr medians come from negotiated contracts, not list prices, so use them as a range to check a quote against.
What changes when questionnaire answers come from the compliance program itself
The CTO stops being the questionnaire department
A 150-question review used to mean days of an engineer typing from memory. Now the draft arrives matched and written from the record, and the engineer only reviews, edits the handful the workspace cannot answer and approves.
No answer claims more than the evidence shows
If the backup restore test is overdue, the draft says the evidence is out of date and when it went stale. That one line is the difference between a delayed answer and a misrepresentation in a signed customer contract.
Every answer carries its source
The export lists, for each question, the mapped control, the answer, its approval status and the evidence and policies behind it with dates. When the customer's security team pushes back, you already know which document to attach.
Approved answers come back for the next prospect
An approved answer is offered as the starting draft the next time the same question appears, with who approved it and when, so the second and third questionnaire from the same industry go much faster than the first.
Connected systems answer for themselves
On Growth, evidence connectors for GitHub, AWS, Okta, Google Workspace and Microsoft Entra record checks against your control areas. Where a check covers a question, the draft answers from the result, including any open finding.
A price you can read before any call
Questionnaires come with Growth at $119 a month billed yearly, with 15 seats and five frameworks. Scale at $299 adds 40 seats, Manager and Viewer roles, SSO, custom frameworks and an audit export pack. Monthly billing is $239 and $599.
Answering your first security questionnaire in Complies
Set up the framework your customers ask about
Pick SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR or PCI DSS. Complies seeds the recurring obligations and the control areas, so the questionnaire has something to match against from the first day.
Record the evidence and policies you already have
Mark the evidence you hold with its collection date, approve the policies that are current, or connect GitHub, AWS, Okta, Google Workspace or Entra. Every record you add makes more drafts answerable.
Paste or upload the questionnaire
Paste the questions one per line or upload a CSV with the questions in the first column, up to 300 per questionnaire. Each one comes back matched, drafted and flagged where a person has to answer.
Review, approve and export
Edit the drafts, approve each answer and export the CSV with answers, mapped controls, status and sources. Paste the answers into the customer's template or portal and keep the export as your record.
Who this is for, and who it is not
A GOOD FIT WHEN
- Enterprise prospects send you security questionnaires before they sign, and today the CTO or a senior engineer answers them from memory.
- You run SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR or PCI DSS, or are working toward one, and want questionnaire answers that match what your auditor will see.
- You have been burned, or nearly burned, by a questionnaire answer that was true last year and is not true today.
- You want a published price and monthly billing rather than a demo and a 12-month contract for a response tool.
LOOK ELSEWHERE WHEN
- You answer dozens of RFPs and questionnaires a quarter with sales content as well as security answers. A response platform such as Loopio, Conveyor or AutoRFP.ai is built for that volume.
- You need answers written back into the customer's own Excel layout or typed into procurement portals for you. Complies exports a CSV you paste from.
- You want a public trust center with gated documents and NDAs. That is a trust center product, which Complies does not offer.
- You want an AI to write fluent answers to questions your records do not cover. Complies deliberately leaves those for a person.
Security questionnaire software questions buyers ask before choosing a tool
Security questionnaire automation drafts answers to a customer's security review for you, so a person reviews and approves instead of writing every answer from scratch. Tools differ in where the drafts come from: a library of past answers, AI over uploaded documents, or, in Complies, the live control status, dated evidence and approved policies of your compliance program.
Published prices run from $119 a month billed yearly for Complies Growth, which includes questionnaires, to $300 and $900 a month for 1up, $899 a month for AutoRFP.ai and $9,600 a year for Conveyor Business. Loopio is quote-only with a Vendr median of $24,209 a year, and Vanta and Drata bundle questionnaire tools into quote-only platforms.
For a startup of 5 to 50 people where the same engineers run security and answer questionnaires, the best fit is a tool that answers from the compliance program you already need for SOC 2 or ISO 27001, so you pay once. Complies does that from $119 a month. If questionnaires arrive weekly from a sales team, a dedicated response platform earns its price.
Done by hand, a 100 to 300 question review often takes an engineer one to two weeks of interrupted time, most of it spent finding out what is true. With drafts matched to controls and written from recorded evidence, the work becomes review and approval of each answer, plus manual answers only for the questions the workspace cannot cover.
No. Matching is deterministic: each question is normalized for security vocabulary and scored against 17 control areas, and the draft is built only from what your workspace records. A question below the match threshold is marked for manual answering rather than guessed. That is a deliberate choice, because a fluent wrong answer on a questionnaire becomes a contractual claim.
Paste the questions one per line, or upload a CSV or text file with the questions in the first column; a header row such as Question is skipped. Each questionnaire takes up to 300 questions, and longer ones can be split into parts. The finished questionnaire exports as a CSV with the question, mapped control, answer, status and the evidence and policies behind it.
Growth and Scale. Growth is $119 a month billed yearly or $239 monthly, with 15 seats, five frameworks, evidence, risk and vendor registers and the connectors. Scale is $299 a month billed yearly or $599 monthly and adds 40 seats, Manager and Viewer roles, SSO, custom frameworks and the audit export pack. Starter does not include questionnaires.
Yes. When a question you approved before appears again, Complies starts from that approved answer and shows who approved it and when, along with its sources. It still has to be approved again for the new questionnaire, so an answer that has since gone out of date gets a second look before it is sent.
Often it shortens one but rarely replaces it. Many enterprise buyers accept a SOC 2 Type II report in place of large parts of their questionnaire, then ask the remaining questions their framework does not cover. Running SOC 2 and the questionnaire from the same workspace means those remaining answers come from the same evidence the auditor tested.
They are two sides of one process. Your customer runs a vendor risk assessment and sends you a security questionnaire as part of it. When you assess your own vendors, you are on the other side, and Complies covers that too with a vendor register and due diligence tracking on Growth.
