Thoropass pricing: what Thoropass costs per year for the platform and the SOC 2 audit
Thoropass shows no prices on its own site, but its AWS Marketplace listing does. Here are the two starting figures, what they cover, what a real first-year SOC 2 contract lands at, and when a platform-only tool is the cheaper route.

How much does Thoropass cost per year?
Thoropass pricing starts at $8,700 a year for the Compliance Platform, which includes your first framework, plus $5,800 a year for a SOC 2 Audit subscription performed by Thoropass's own in-house auditors. Those are the starting figures on its AWS Marketplace listing, read in September 2026, so a first SOC 2 year with Thoropass starts at about $14,500 before scope pushes it up. Brokered contract data from Vendr puts the median Thoropass deal at $25,000 a year, with a range from $1,145 to $50,880.
The gap between $14,500 and $25,000 is the part worth understanding before a call. Both AWS figures are labeled "starting at", and the listing names what moves them: scope, company size, the systems included, the Trust Services Criteria you choose, whether the audit is Type 1 or Type 2, and the length of the review period. A 30-person SaaS company doing a Security-only Type 1 sits near the floor. A 150-person company adding Availability and Confidentiality to a twelve-month Type 2 does not, and a second framework such as ISO 27001 or HIPAA adds platform cost on top.
Thoropass's own website is quote-only. Its /pricing URL sends you back to the homepage, where the call to action is to get started or book time with the team. That is why this search returns so many estimates with no source attached. The AWS listing is the one place Thoropass itself puts a number in writing, and Vendr is the one third party that discloses where its figure comes from.
The honest comparison is structural rather than a race to the lowest number. Thoropass sells the software and the audit from one company, and that bundle has real value for a first-time SOC 2 team that has never hired a CPA firm. Complies sells the software only: $79, $199 or $499 a month at the yearly rate, with automated evidence collection and all five frameworks cross-mapped from Growth at $2,388 a year. You then hire any CPA firm you like for the attestation, so the software line stays fixed and published and the audit is a separate price you can shop.
Complies assists with compliance workflows. It is not legal advice, and it does not certify you or guarantee audit outcomes. Your auditor decides; Complies gets you ready.
Three things that decide whether your Thoropass quote lands near $14,500 or past $40,000
How much SOC 2 you put in scope
The audit subscription is priced from scope. The listing names the Trust Services Criteria, the audit type and the review period as drivers, which in practice means Security-only Type 1 is the cheap version and a multi-criteria Type 2 over twelve months is the expensive one. Decide what your customers actually asked for before the call. Most security questionnaires ask for a Type 2 on Security, not every category.
audit readiness softwareHow many frameworks ride on the platform
The $8,700 platform starting price includes one framework. The listing says you can add more later and reuse controls and evidence across them, which is exactly how the platform line grows. If ISO 27001 or HIPAA is on next year's roadmap, ask for the price of framework two in writing now, while you still have leverage and before the renewal conversation.
control mapping softwareCompany size and the systems in scope
More people, more integrations and more production infrastructure mean more controls to evidence and more audit hours, and both subscriptions scale with it. Thoropass writes the scope into a scoping document early, which keeps the engagement predictable. Treat that document as the real quote. The headline number means little until you know which systems are inside it.
automated evidence collectionThoropass pricing next to the rest of the SOC 2 market
Every figure below is either published by the vendor or comes from Vendr, which brokers real software contracts and discloses a sample. The columns separate what each price actually buys, because the most common mistake in this search is comparing Thoropass's bundled software and audit against another vendor's software-only price.
| Platform | Starting or median annual cost | What the price covers | Source and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thoropass | From about $14,500: platform $8,700 plus SOC 2 audit $5,800 | Software with the first framework, plus a SOC 2 audit by in-house auditors | AWS Marketplace listing, read September 2026 |
| Thoropass (brokered deals) | Median $25,000 a year, range $1,145 to $50,880 | A mix of platform-only and bundled contracts | Vendr, read September 2026 |
| Scytale | From $7,500 platform plus $4,200 for a third-party audit | Platform and one framework; the audit is a separate add-on line | AWS Marketplace listing, read September 2026 |
| Secureframe | From $7,000 a year on Fundamentals | Software only, one framework; the CPA firm is billed separately | secureframe.com, read September 2026 |
| Vanta | Median about $20,000 a year across 372 contracts | Software only; the CPA firm is billed separately | Vendr, February 2026 |
| Drata | Median $24,868 a year | Software only; the CPA firm is billed separately | Vendr, February 2026 |
| Complies | $948 to $5,988 a year | Software only; you hire the CPA firm you choose | Our pricing page. List price, not a benchmark |
To compare like with like, add an audit fee to every software-only row. SOC 2 examinations from a licensed CPA firm commonly run $5,000 to $20,000 for a Type 1 and more for a Type 2, depending on the firm and the scope. Done that way, Thoropass's bundled floor is competitive, and its real advantage is coordination rather than price. Complies is not a cheaper Thoropass. It has no audit function and no pentesting, and it will not run your examination. It is the software half of the job at a published price. Compare these platforms feature by feature on Thoropass alternatives, Vanta alternatives and Drata alternatives.
What Thoropass actually publishes, checked on September 18, 2026
Most articles on this query quote tier names and prices without a source. Here is what each primary page says when you open it, so you can tell a vendor figure from an estimate.
| What we checked | What it says today | Any figure published | What that means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| thoropass.com/pricing | Redirects to the Thoropass homepage | None | There is no rate card on the vendor site. Any "Thoropass price list" you find elsewhere is an estimate |

| The listing's buyer FAQ | Final cost depends on scope, company size, systems included, Trust Services Criteria, audit type and review period length | None per driver | These are the six levers. Pin each one down in the scoping document before you sign |
| The Thoropass homepage | Audit, audit-ready pentesting, vulnerability scanning and a compliance suite, across SOC 1, SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, HIPAA, HITRUST, CMMC Level 1, NIST CSF 2.0 and GDPR | None | Each service can become its own line on the contract. Ask which ones are in your quote |
| Vendr's marketplace page | A median with a low and high end | Median $25,000, range $1,145 to $50,880 (it showed $25,964 and $1,145 to $51,478 in February 2026) | Useful as a benchmark for the middle of the market, not as a price for your scope |
One caution on the Vendr row. The same Vendr page says Thoropass subscriptions do not include third-party auditor fees, which conflicts with Thoropass's own listing, where the audit subscription covers a SOC 2 audit performed by in-house auditors. On what is included, trust the vendor listing. On what buyers end up paying, the Vendr median is still the best disclosed number available.
What you get from Complies instead, and what you give up
A software price you can read today
Starter $79 a month, Growth $199 and Scale $499 at the yearly rate, or $95, $239 and $599 billed monthly. You can put the software line in a budget this afternoon without a scoping call, and it does not move when your audit scope does.
Pick your own auditor
The attestation stays a separate decision. You can take quotes from two or three CPA firms, choose on price and fit, and switch firms next year without switching software. Some buyers and some customers prefer that independence between the tool and the attester.
Five frameworks, one set of controls
From Growth, SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA and PCI DSS are cross-mapped to one control set, so a quarterly access review counts toward all five instead of being logged five times. There is no per-framework add-on to negotiate at renewal.
Evidence that collects on a schedule
Connect AWS, GitHub, Google Workspace or Okta and evidence is pulled on a schedule against the controls it proves, from Growth up. Starter covers one framework with manual evidence, which suits a team that just needs the obligation list and owners.
Obligations with owners and due dates
Access reviews, policy reviews, vendor reviews and control tests each become a dated item with a named owner, chased before it goes stale. At 5 to 200 people, missed dates cause more audit exceptions than missing controls do.
What you give up, said plainly
No audit function, no in-house CPA team, no penetration testing and no vulnerability scanning. If your team wants one company to run readiness, the pentest and the SOC 2 examination end to end, Thoropass is built for that and we are not.
How to get a usable Thoropass number without burning two weeks
Write down the exact SOC 2 you need
Type 1 or Type 2, which Trust Services Criteria, and what review period. Check the security questionnaires sitting in your inbox, because they tell you what customers will accept. Every item you leave open is an item the scoping call fills in for you.
Ask for both subscriptions split out, per year
Get the Compliance Platform and the Audit subscription as separate lines, then the price of a second framework and the renewal terms. The listing bills the two independently, so a split quote is a normal request, not a special one.
Hold the quote against the two anchors
$14,500 is the published floor for platform plus audit. $25,000 is the brokered median. If your quote sits well above the median for a single framework, ask which scope item drives it. That question alone often moves the number.
Price the unbundled route next to it
Take a software-only price plus two CPA audit quotes and compare the all-in first-year total. If the bundle wins, you have a documented reason to sign it. If the unbundled route wins, you have saved a recurring line. Both are good outcomes.
Who this is for, and who it is not
A GOOD FIT WHEN
- You are holding a Thoropass quote and want to know whether it sits near the published floor or the brokered median.
- You searched Thoropass pricing, found only estimates, and want the vendor figures with a source.
- You would rather hire your own CPA firm and keep the software cost fixed and published.
- You need SOC 2 now and ISO 27001, HIPAA or GDPR later without a per-framework add-on.
- You are a 5 to 200 person company and want to start the same day without a scoping call.
LOOK ELSEWHERE WHEN
- You want one company to run readiness, the pentest and the SOC 2 audit end to end.
- Nobody on your team has worked with an auditor and you want the vendor to manage that relationship.
- You need HITRUST validated assessments or CMMC work, which we do not cover.
- You need penetration testing or vulnerability scanning from the same vendor.
- Your procurement team buys only through AWS Marketplace to burn down committed spend.
Questions buyers ask about Thoropass pricing
Thoropass starts at $8,700 a year for the Compliance Platform with your first framework, plus $5,800 a year for a SOC 2 Audit subscription, according to its AWS Marketplace listing read in September 2026. That makes about $14,500 the floor for a first SOC 2 year. Vendr's brokered data puts the median Thoropass contract at $25,000 a year, with a range from $1,145 to $50,880.
Not on its own website. The thoropass.com/pricing URL redirects to the homepage and there is no rate card. The AWS Marketplace listing is the exception: it publishes starting prices for two 12-month subscriptions, the Compliance Platform at $8,700 and the SOC 2 Audit at $5,800. Everything above those floors is set in a scoping call.
It is a separate subscription from the same vendor. The Compliance Platform covers the readiness software and your first framework. The Audit subscription covers a SOC 2 audit performed by Thoropass's in-house auditors, starting at $5,800 a year. The two bill independently but work together, so you do not hire an outside CPA firm when you buy both.
For a small SaaS company doing a first SOC 2, the published floor is about $14,500 a year for the platform and the audit together. Where you land above that depends on the Trust Services Criteria, Type 1 or Type 2, the review period and the systems in scope. Vendr's median across all Thoropass deals is $25,000 a year, which includes larger and multi-framework buyers.
It is worth it when coordination is your bottleneck: nobody on the team has run an audit, and you want the vendor that prepared you to audit you. It is less compelling when you already know a CPA firm or want to shop the audit on price. In that case, a software-only platform plus your own auditor can come in below the bundle, and the software cost stays fixed.
Thoropass does not publish a per-framework price. The AWS listing says you can add frameworks to the platform later and reuse controls and evidence across them, which is how the platform line grows. Ask for the framework-two price in writing before you sign, and ask separately about the ISO 27001 certification audit, which is a different engagement from SOC 2.
They price different things. Vanta sells software only and does not publish a price; Vendr reports a median of about $20,000 a year across 372 contracts, with the CPA firm billed separately. Thoropass bundles the audit, starting at about $14,500 a year for platform plus SOC 2 audit on AWS Marketplace. Add an audit fee to the Vanta number before you compare them.
Yes. Thoropass is listed on AWS Marketplace with 12-month contracts for the Compliance Platform and the SOC 2 Audit subscription, and the listing offers private offers and custom pricing on request. Buying through the marketplace can draw down committed AWS spend, which is a real consideration if your company has an enterprise discount program with AWS.
If you want the bundle, Scytale's AWS listing starts at $7,500 for the platform with a $4,200 third-party audit add-on. If you are fine hiring your own auditor, Secureframe publishes $7,000 a year for Fundamentals, and Complies publishes $79 to $499 a month with evidence collection and five cross-mapped frameworks from $199. Add a CPA audit to software-only options.
Get the platform and the audit as separate lines, fix the SOC 2 scope in writing, and ask for the price of a second framework and the renewal uplift before you sign. Then compare against the two public anchors: the $14,500 published floor and the $25,000 brokered median. A quote far above the median for one framework usually has a scope item you can remove.
