PRICE

How much does Scytale cost per year?

Scytale pricing starts at $7,500 a year for the software platform with one framework, according to its AWS Marketplace listing read in September 2026. Every other part of the offer is a separate annual line: $2,100 for each additional framework, $4,000 for framework consulting, $4,500 for a penetration test, $4,200 for a third-party audit, $12,000 for security questionnaire support and $36,000 for a virtual GRC or DPO service. All seven are labeled starting prices on 12-month contracts.

That listing matters because Scytale's own pricing page shows plan names and no figures. It sells three startup plans (Build Starter, Build DFY and Build Stronger) and two plans for security teams (Scale and Enterprise), and every one of them ends in a "Get a demo" button. The plan contents line up with the marketplace components. Build Starter is the platform and one framework. Build DFY, which Scytale marks as most popular, adds its LaunchReady consulting plan and a black box web app pen test. Build Stronger swaps in the twelve-month StayReady consulting plan and a gray box pen test.

Added up at the AWS starting prices, which is our arithmetic and not a Scytale quote, Build Starter begins around $7,500, Build DFY around $16,000, and either one needs about $4,200 more if you buy the audit through Scytale. No broker publishes a usable median: Vendr shows a single recorded Scytale purchase, which is not a benchmark.

Complies sells the software half only: $79, $199 or $499 a month at the yearly rate, with evidence collection and SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA and PCI DSS cross-mapped from Growth at $2,388 a year. You bring your own consultant if you want one and hire the CPA firm or certification body you choose.

Complies assists with compliance workflows. It is not legal advice, and it does not certify you or guarantee audit outcomes. Your auditor decides; Complies gets you ready.

WHAT MOVES THE NUMBER

Three decisions that set your Scytale quote before anyone opens a spreadsheet

01

Whether you buy the consulting

The platform floor is $7,500. The step up to Build DFY is mostly services: LaunchReady gives you a dedicated consultant for up to six months, and the marketplace prices framework consulting from $4,000. If someone on your team has run an audit before, or you already pay a fractional CISO, you may be buying the same hours twice. Decide who drives the program before the call.

02

How many frameworks sit on the platform

The starting price covers one framework and each additional one starts at $2,100 a year. Two frameworks is the common case for a SaaS company, SOC 2 for US buyers and ISO 27001 for European ones, which moves the platform line to at least $9,600. Add HIPAA or GDPR and it keeps growing. Ask for the per-framework price in writing, including at renewal.

03

Which services you keep inside the contract

Scytale can also sell the pen test ($4,500), the audit ($4,200), security questionnaire answering ($12,000) and a virtual GRC or DPO ($36,000). Each one is useful, and each one is a line you could source elsewhere. Bundling buys you coordination. Unbundling buys you the right to shop each service on price and switch providers without switching software.

COMPARE

Every Scytale price line, as its AWS Marketplace listing publishes it

These are the seven 12-month contract dimensions on the listing, read on September 21, 2026. Each is labeled a starting price, so treat them as floors that scope pushes up, not as a quote for your company.

Component Starting annual price What the listing says it covers Where it shows up in Scytale's plans
Software platform $7,500 Software access and one framework, priced per organization size Every plan. This is Build Starter on its own
Additional framework $2,100 each One more framework with automation and support Add-on to any plan
Framework consulting $4,000 Dedicated compliance expert support The LaunchReady and StayReady plans inside Build DFY and Build Stronger
Penetration test $4,500 Advanced security penetration testing Build DFY (black box web app) and Build Stronger (gray box web app)
Third-party audit $4,200 Third-party audit services Sold as a separate service line
Security questionnaires $12,000 Questionnaire answering with AI and expert review Sold as a separate service line
Virtual compliance $36,000 A personal virtual GRC or DPO with full support Closest to the ComplianceShield vCISO package

The totals people quote for Scytale come from stacking these lines. At the starting prices, the platform plus consulting plus a pen test is $16,000 before an audit, and one extra framework takes it to $18,100. Those sums are our arithmetic from the listing, not a Scytale quote, and a real proposal can land above or below them. Complies is not a cheaper Scytale. It has no consultants, no pen testing and no audit service. It is the software half of the job at a published price. Compare these platforms feature by feature on Scytale alternatives, Vanta alternatives and Drata alternatives.

READ FIRST-HAND

What Scytale and the benchmarks actually publish, checked on September 21, 2026

Most pages on this query repeat a starting price with no source, or say Scytale publishes nothing. Here is what each primary page shows when you open it.

What we checked What it says today Any figure published What that means for a buyer
scytale.ai/pricing Build Starter, Build DFY, Build Stronger, Scale and Enterprise, each with a "Get a demo" button None The plan names tell you what is bundled. The price comes from a call
The AWS Marketplace listing Seven 12-month contract dimensions for the "Scytale AI GRC Platform" Platform from $7,500, plus six add-on lines from $2,100 to $36,000 The only figures Scytale itself puts in writing. All are floors
The listing's product description 80+ frameworks, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 42001, the EU AI Act, SOX ITGC and DORA None per framework beyond the $2,100 add-on Broad coverage, priced one framework at a time
Scytale's consulting packages LaunchReady (consultant for up to 6 months), StayReady (12 months), ComplianceShield vCISO (a team of GRC experts) None on the pricing page Consulting is the biggest variable between the startup plans
Vendr's marketplace page A single recorded purchase One contract at $10,000 One data point is not a median. Do not treat it as a benchmark

Why the listing and not an estimate: every third-party number for Scytale either repeats the $7,500 AWS floor or rests on an undisclosed sample. The listing is the vendor's own figure, dated and itemized. The honest limit is that "starting price, per org size" means a 150-person company will not pay the floor.

CAPABILITIES

What you get from Complies instead, and what you give up

A price you can read before a demo

Starter $79 a month, Growth $199 and Scale $499 at the yearly rate, or $95, $239 and $599 billed monthly. You can budget the software line this afternoon, and it does not move when you add a consultant or change auditors.

Five frameworks without a per-framework line

From Growth, SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA and PCI DSS map to one control set, so one access review counts toward all five. At Scytale's published rate, four extra frameworks would add $8,400 a year to the platform line alone.

Keep the advisors and the auditor you choose

The consultant, the pen tester and the CPA firm stay separate decisions. You can take quotes, pick on price and fit, and switch next year without migrating your controls and evidence to a new tool.

Evidence that collects on a schedule

Connect AWS, GitHub, Google Workspace or Okta and evidence is pulled on a schedule against the controls it proves, from Growth up. Starter covers one framework with manual evidence for teams that mainly need owners and dates.

Obligations with owners and due dates

Access reviews, policy reviews, vendor reviews and control tests each become a dated item with a named owner, chased before it goes stale. That is where small teams lose audits, far more often than on missing controls.

What you give up, said plainly

No consultants, no vCISO, no pen testing, no questionnaire answering service and no audit. If you want one vendor to run the program with you from first control to final report, Scytale is built for that and we are not.

BEFORE THE CALL

How to get a comparable Scytale number in one call

01

Decide what you are buying besides software

Consulting, pen test, audit, questionnaires, vCISO. Write yes or no next to each before the demo. Every open item becomes a line on the proposal, and the plan names are built around bundling them.

02

Ask for the proposal split by component

The AWS listing already prices each dimension separately, so an itemized quote is a normal request. Get the platform, each framework, each service and the renewal terms as separate numbers.

03

Hold each line against the listing

Compare every item to its AWS starting price: $7,500 platform, $2,100 per extra framework, $4,000 consulting, $4,500 pen test, $4,200 audit. A line far above its floor usually has a scope assumption you can question.

04

Price the unbundled route next to it

Take a software-only price, two audit quotes and one pen test quote, and compare the first-year total. If the bundle wins, sign it with a documented reason. If not, you keep the difference every year.

FIT

Who this is for, and who it is not

A GOOD FIT WHEN

  • You are holding a Scytale proposal and want to check each line against the vendor's own published floors.
  • You searched Scytale pricing, found only "contact sales", and want the itemized figures with a source.
  • You already have a consultant, a pen tester or an audit firm and only need the software.
  • You need SOC 2 now and ISO 27001, GDPR or HIPAA next year without a per-framework add-on.
  • You are a 5 to 200 person company that wants to start the same day without a demo.

LOOK ELSEWHERE WHEN

  • You want a dedicated consultant or vCISO to run the program with you.
  • You want the pen test and the audit bought from the same vendor as the software.
  • You need security questionnaire answering as a managed service.
  • You need ISO 42001, the EU AI Act, DORA or SOX ITGC mapped in the tool, which we do not cover.
  • Your procurement team buys only through AWS Marketplace to draw down committed spend.
QUESTIONS

Questions buyers ask about Scytale pricing

Scytale starts at $7,500 a year for the software platform with one framework, according to its AWS Marketplace listing read in September 2026. Services are priced as separate annual lines: $2,100 per extra framework, $4,000 consulting, $4,500 pen test, $4,200 audit, $12,000 security questionnaires and $36,000 virtual compliance. All are starting prices that scale with company size.

Not on its own website. scytale.ai/pricing lists five plans (Build Starter, Build DFY, Build Stronger, Scale and Enterprise) with no figures and a "Get a demo" button on each. The AWS Marketplace listing is the exception: it publishes starting prices for the platform and six service add-ons on 12-month contracts.

Scytale does not publish a price for Build DFY. The plan contains the platform, one framework, the LaunchReady consulting plan and a black box web app pen test. At the AWS Marketplace starting prices, those components add up to about $16,000 a year ($7,500 plus $4,000 plus $4,500). That is our arithmetic from the listing, not a quote.

Not in the platform price. The AWS listing sells third-party audit services as a separate line starting at $4,200 a year, and none of the startup plans on Scytale's pricing page list an audit among their contents. You can buy the audit through Scytale or hire your own CPA firm for SOC 2 or certification body for ISO 27001.

The AWS Marketplace listing prices an additional platform framework from $2,100 a year, covering automation and support for that framework. So SOC 2 plus ISO 27001 starts at $9,600 on the platform line, and each further framework adds at least $2,100 more. Ask for the renewal price per framework in writing before you sign.

For a startup doing its first SOC 2, the floor is $7,500 a year for Build Starter, plus about $4,200 if the audit comes from Scytale. Most first-time buyers are steered toward Build DFY, which adds consulting and a pen test and reaches about $16,000 before the audit at the listing's starting prices. Company size moves every line up.

It is worth it when you want someone to run the program with you: a first audit, no internal compliance lead, and a deadline from a customer. It is less compelling if you already have a consultant or an auditor you trust, because you pay for those services inside the bundle. Then software-only tools plus your own providers usually cost less.

Scytale is the only one of the three that publishes a figure, through AWS Marketplace: $7,500 for the platform with one framework. Vanta and Drata publish nothing; Vendr reports medians of about $20,000 and $24,868 a year (February 2026), software only. Scytale's services are extra, so compare the platform line to the platform line.

Secureframe publishes $7,000 a year for its one-framework Fundamentals plan. Hicomply publishes $6,995 and $13,995 a year. Complies publishes $79 to $499 a month, with evidence collection and five cross-mapped frameworks from $199 a month. All three are software-first, so add your own audit and any consulting before comparing to a Scytale bundle.

Yes. Scytale lists its platform and six service packages on AWS Marketplace on 12-month contracts, with custom quotes by organization size. Buying there can draw down committed AWS spend under an enterprise discount program, which is a genuine reason some procurement teams prefer it even when the list price is the same.
