A Vanta renewal usually arrives higher than the price you signed. Vendr, which brokers software contracts, reports that Vanta renewal quotes often include 10 to 20 percent increases unless the buyer renegotiates, and that buyers who push back typically land 10 to 20 percent below the first renewal quote. Under Vanta's standard Master Subscription Agreement the subscription renews automatically for another year unless you give notice at least 30 days before the term ends, so the leverage window closes earlier than most teams expect.

This page is for the person holding that renewal quote: a security lead, a CTO or a finance owner at a company that passed its first SOC 2 on Vanta and now has to decide whether to sign again, negotiate, or move. Everything below was read from Vanta's own terms and pricing page, or from Vendr's published benchmarks, on October 19, 2026.

Vanta renewal pricing at a glance

Question What the record shows Source
Does Vanta publish prices? No. The pricing page lists Essentials, Plus, Professional and Enterprise, and every tier says "Get personalized pricing" vanta.com/pricing
What does the median buyer pay? $20,000 a year, in a range from $7,500 to about $57,200, last updated February 2026 Vendr
How much do renewals go up? Renewal quotes often carry 10 to 20 percent increases; contracts commonly include 5 to 10 percent annual escalators Vendr
Does it auto-renew? Yes, for successive one-year periods, unless you give notice at least 30 days before the period ends and your Order Form says otherwise Vanta MSA, Section 3.1.2
Will Vanta warn you about a price increase? The MSA says Vanta will give "reasonable notice" of fee increases before the current period expires, and changes take effect at the next period Vanta MSA, Section 2.2
Bought through a reseller? Then the reseller sets the fees, including renewal increases, and the pricing sections above do not apply Vanta MSA, Section 2.5

How much does Vanta cost at renewal?

Expect your renewal quote to land between your current price and roughly 20 percent above it, before any add-ons you started using during the year. Vendr's benchmark puts the median Vanta contract at $20,000 a year, and its headcount guidance for a single framework runs from $12,000 to $25,000 for 1 to 50 employees and $20,000 to $40,000 for 51 to 200.

The base price is rarely the whole story at renewal. Three things push the number up even when the per-unit rate stays flat. Headcount bands: if you hired from 48 to 70 people, you may have crossed into the next band. Frameworks: a second framework such as ISO 27001 or HIPAA added mid-term gets priced into the renewal, and Vendr notes that mid-contract additions reportedly cost 15 to 30 percent more than bundling them up front. Add-ons: Vendr lists vendor risk management at $5,000 to $15,000 a year and questionnaire automation and Trust Center at $3,000 to $8,000 a year each. If your quote jumped by more than 20 percent, ask for a line-item breakdown before you discuss anything else, because the increase is usually one of those three and each one can be negotiated separately.

When do you have to cancel Vanta before it auto-renews?

Under the standard terms, at least 30 days before the end of your current service period. Section 3.1.2 of the Vanta Master Subscription Agreement says the subscription automatically renews for successive one-year periods unless the customer gives notice of termination at least thirty days before the period ends. The Order Form you signed can override that, so check it first: an older version of the agreement used 45 days, and enterprise contracts often negotiate their own term.

Put two dates on the calendar now. The first is the notice deadline itself. The second is 60 to 90 days before it, which is when you should ask for the renewal quote in writing. Asking that early is not about being organized; it is the only way to leave enough time to collect a competing quote and still give notice if the numbers do not move.

How to negotiate a Vanta renewal

The buyers who do best treat the renewal like a new purchase rather than a formality. Based on Vanta's own terms and the negotiation data Vendr publishes, the order of operations looks like this:

  1. Get the quote in writing, line by line. Separate the platform fee from frameworks, headcount band and each add-on. You cannot negotiate a single number you do not understand.
  2. Check what you actually used. Pull the questionnaire count, the Trust Center traffic and the vendor list. Plus caps questionnaire automation at 25 a year and Professional at 144, according to Vanta's pricing page, so you may be paying for a tier you never filled.
  3. Ask for a cap on future increases. Vendr suggests 0 to 5 percent a year, or flat pricing for the term. Its community examples include buyers who cut a renewal uplift cap from 10 to 5 percent and buyers who won a price lock at renewal.
  4. Only offer a longer term if you want one. Vanta prefers multi-year commitments and Vendr reports 10 to 25 percent discounts for two or three years. That discount also removes your next exit for that whole term.
  5. Bring a real alternative. A competing quote with a published price is the most credible kind, because the vendor cannot argue it was inflated for the negotiation.

If renewals keep surprising your finance team, the fix is structural rather than heroic: put every software contract, its notice date and its last price into one place and set budget alerts on software spend so the next uplift gets noticed in month nine, not on the invoice.

Vanta alternatives worth quoting at renewal

These are the platforms a Vanta customer can realistically move to without changing what the auditor sees. Prices were read off each vendor's own site or labeled as a Vendr benchmark between August and October 2026.

Platform What is published about price Renewal terms you can see before signing Best fit
Complies Published: $47, $119, $299 and $499 a month billed yearly; $95, $239, $599 and $998 billed monthly Monthly billing on every plan, so there is no annual lock-in if you choose it Companies of 5 to 200 running SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR or PCI DSS with a small team
Drata Not published. Vendr median $24,868 a year Quote only Funded startups that want deep automated evidence collection
Secureframe Fundamentals starting at $7,000 a year for one framework; Complete and Defense quote only Quote only above Fundamentals Teams that want compliance guidance bundled with the platform
Sprinto Not published. Vendr median about $15,000 a year Quote only Cost-conscious SaaS companies that want a prescriptive task list
Hicomply Essentials $6,995 a year, Professional $13,995 a year Its own FAQ states a 10 percent standard renewal uplift each year ISO 27001-led programs that want unlimited users on one fee
Thoropass Not published. Vendr median $25,964 a year Quote only, platform and audit bundled Teams that want the audit and the software from one company

Two things stand out. Hicomply is the only vendor in the table besides us that writes its renewal uplift down in public, which is worth more than it sounds when you are trying to budget year three. And Complies is the only one where the first-year price, the renewal price and the cancellation path are all on the pricing page. For the full picture of how each one is sold, see our comparison of Vanta alternatives and competitors.

Is it worth switching from Vanta at renewal?

It is worth switching when you are paying for automation you do not lean on. If your SOC 2 program is a small team, 15 to 40 policies, a vendor list, quarterly access reviews and an annual audit, most of what the renewal buys is breadth you never touch. A platform at $1,428 a year on Complies Growth covers five cross-mapped frameworks, the vendor register and the audit pack, against a Vanta median of $20,000.

It is usually not worth switching if Vanta's integrations and automated tests are carrying real weight: hundreds of cloud resources checked continuously, a Trust Center your sales team uses every week, or a questionnaire volume near the Professional cap. Moving that is a project, and the honest move there is to negotiate hard with the leverage above and stay. We say the same thing on our Vanta pricing page, which breaks down what each Vanta tier includes.

What happens to your SOC 2 if you leave Vanta mid-audit cycle?

Nothing breaks, as long as you keep the evidence. Your SOC 2 report is issued by an independent CPA firm, not by Vanta, so your auditor and your report stay where they are. What a Type II auditor tests is whether your controls operated across the observation window, and they will accept evidence from two systems if each piece is dated and attributable.

The practical risk is the export. Vanta's Master Subscription Agreement says that on termination Vanta removes your access, and it does not set out a data export period, so download everything before the notice takes effect: test results, policy versions with approvals and acknowledgments, access review records, vendor files, and the auditor-facing evidence for the current window. Then rebuild the controls in the new platform, attach the exported files as historical evidence, and tell your auditor about the change at the start of the next fieldwork, not the end.

How Complies handles a Vanta switch, and where it stops

Complies maps your controls across SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA and PCI DSS, collects evidence with owners and due dates, drafts policies from the stack you run and records who approved and acknowledged each version, tracks vendors and access reviews, and exports an audit pack your CPA firm can work from. Prices are on the pricing page, monthly billing is available on every plan, and you can start without a sales call.

It does not import a Vanta workspace automatically, it has a smaller integration library than Vanta, and it does not run a public Trust Center. If those are the reasons you bought Vanta, keep them in the comparison. If the reason you are reading this is a renewal quote that grew faster than your company did, compare it line by line with our compliance software pricing breakdown and see what the same program costs with the price published.
